Blind Online Success System

The World Burping Association, LLC and BurpForFame.com are proud sponsors of the Blind Online Success System (BOSS)

donaldbrown.jpg The BOSS program provides free training about marketing online and starting and developing an online business to people who are blind or visually impaired. In exchange for the training, members of the program act as apprentices to an existing online business so they may increase their knowledge while providing valuable assistance.

Take 30 seconds and close your eyes – imagine what your life would be like if you could not see. How would you work, how would you get around, what would you do for fun, how would you surf the internet?

Most people's perception of blindness is that of total blackness. However, legal blindness and vision impairment take many different forms. For a very interesting explanation, please visit the ACBVI - Visual Simulation Presentation. This web page, created by the Arizona Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired has a fascinating explanation of blindness with pictures to show sighted people what blindness is really like.

Often people associate blindness with people who are born blind. However, estimates state that perhaps 95% of all blindness is due to disease or injury to people who were born with full vision. Some causes such as cataracts and glaucoma are more widely known, however there are many other causes including diabetes, Trachoma (a virus), Macular degeneration, Retinitis pigmentosa, and others.

In the United States, estimates of the number of blind persons who are unemployed range from 70% to 76%. Additionally, the number of blind persons who are underemployed is estimated at 30%. There are many highly educated and smart blind and visually impaired people who are unable to obtain employment.

However, according to The Boston Globe "multiple studies have determined that people with disabilities, including blindness, have equal or higher job performance ratings, higher retention rates, lower absenteeism, and no higher rate of injury on the job than their sighted peers. A Rutgers University study has documented that the costs borne by business for providing "reasonable accommodations" to the disabled are minimal, with 73 percent of companies spending nothing."

Primarily the lack of employment opportunity for the blind and visually impaired is due to misconceptions about the skills and abilities of blind persons. Blind and visually impaired persons who are willing, able, and eager to learn and work deserve the opportunity to achieve a financially stable life. Being able to work online helps to resolve any transportation barriers to their success and also provides them the freedom to not be judged by their lack of sight but rather for their achievement.

The Blind Online Success System (BOSS) program helps blind and visually impaired people to develop an online business so they can enrich their lives by working from home online. Some are currently employed and are building their online business part-time while others are not currently employed. They share a dedication to expanding their knowledge and are a community of people working to make their lives better.
